What is the Password Generator?

The Password Generator is a free, browser-based tool that creates strong, random, and secure passwords instantly. It uses the Web Crypto API for cryptographically secure randomness, ensuring your generated passwords are truly unpredictable. Whether you need a simple PIN, a complex passphrase, a Wi-Fi key, or dozens of ultra-secure passwords for enterprise use, this tool has you covered. All processing happens entirely in your browser — no passwords are ever transmitted to any server, making it completely private and safe to use. It's ideal for individuals, developers, IT administrators, and anyone who wants to improve their online security with unique, hard-to-crack passwords for every account, device, and service they use.

How to Use the Password Generator

  1. Set your desired password length using the slider or number input (4 to 128 characters).
  2. Choose which character types to include: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and/or symbols.
  3. Optionally enable advanced options like excluding ambiguous characters, preventing sequential or repeating characters, or requiring the password to start with a letter.
  4. Select a preset (PIN, Strong, Passphrase, etc.) for quick configuration, or keep it on Custom for full control.
  5. Click the "Generate Password" button. Your secure password appears instantly in the output area along with a strength analysis.
  6. Copy the password to your clipboard, download it as a text file, or generate multiple passwords at once by adjusting the quantity.

Features

  • Cryptographically secure: Uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) for true randomness.
  • Customizable character sets: Choose from uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols, or define your own custom symbol set.
  • Smart presets: Instantly configure for PIN, memorable, strong, ultra-strong, Wi-Fi key, hex token, or passphrase generation.
  • Advanced exclusion rules: Remove ambiguous characters, similar characters, sequential chars, repeating chars, or any specific characters.
  • Bulk generation: Generate up to 100 passwords at once with configurable separators.
  • Real-time strength analysis: See entropy bits, charset size, estimated crack time, and a visual strength meter.
  • Session history: View and copy recently generated passwords without losing them.
  • 100% client-side: Nothing leaves your browser — complete privacy guaranteed.

Use Cases

  • Personal accounts: Create unique, strong passwords for every online account to prevent credential stuffing attacks.
  • Wi-Fi security: Generate long, random WPA2/WPA3 keys to secure your home or office wireless network.
  • Development & testing: Quickly generate API keys, test tokens, or random strings for software development and QA.
  • IT administration: Bulk-generate temporary passwords for onboarding new users or resetting compromised accounts.
  • Encryption keys: Create hex tokens or high-entropy strings for encryption, hashing salts, or session IDs.
  • Password manager seeding: Generate master passwords or entries for your password manager with maximum entropy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the generated passwords truly random and secure?

Yes. This tool uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), which is a cryptographically secure pseudo-random number generator built into modern browsers. This is the same standard used by professional security applications, making the generated passwords truly unpredictable and safe for all security-critical uses.

Can you see or store my generated passwords?

Absolutely not. Everything runs 100% in your web browser using JavaScript. No passwords are ever sent to any server, stored in any database, or logged anywhere. Once you close the page, the session history is permanently gone. Your passwords remain completely private.

How long should my password be?

Security experts recommend a minimum of 12 characters for important accounts and 16 or more for maximum security. A 16-character password using uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols provides roughly 105 bits of entropy, which would take billions of years to crack with current technology. For Wi-Fi keys, 20+ characters is recommended.

What is password entropy?

Entropy measures the randomness and unpredictability of a password in bits. Higher entropy means more possible combinations an attacker would need to try. A password with 80+ bits of entropy is considered very strong. Entropy depends on both the password length and the size of the character set used to generate it.

What is a passphrase and when should I use one?

A passphrase is a password made up of multiple random words joined together, like "correct-horse-battery-staple." Passphrases are easier to remember than random character strings while still providing excellent security. They are ideal for master passwords, device passwords, or any situation where you need to type a password from memory rather than using a password manager's autofill feature.
